History

Mauna Kea established in 1959 by Norris Eldridge.  Eldridge was a professional cemetarian who  owned 4 cemeteries in the state of California.

When he retired in Hawaii, his goal was to build his masterpiece, Mauna Kea Memorial Park.

The founder died one year after the cemetery was complete and was laid to rest in the Garden of Christis.

Mauna Kea sits on the slope of Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world when measured from sea level. Mauna Kea is known as the “White Mountain” because of its white snow caps.

Located 1400 ft above sea level on the Hamakua coast. Hamakua means “God’s breath” and is said to have taken God’s breath away because of the beauty of this land.  The Hamakua Coast is known for the historic battle where King Kamehameha united the Hawaiian islands.
